BODYSERVANT NOW

The lost daze dry
In the breeze of his mind
And scattered memories
He strains to find:
A colander of feelings
Bleeds away normality,
In daily leaks
He loses personality.

Clouds of haze surround
Relationships: each routine
Change makes shaky ground
More shaky. He does not hear
Your soft repeated words.

Shrouds of fear and anguish
Cause dismay and panic.
He wanders, time to time,
And wonders in his fear
That all he knew

Has gone forever,
Flung from the barrel
Of his mental gun:
Scattering his nearer past
To shattered pieces.

Shards of an egg-shell life
Litter your connection:
You are reduced
By his reduction
And underwent
His sick induction.

He is stripped bare.
The man you loved
Seems now no longer there.

So you become his minder
Holder, mother, finder
Of the lost strength
Of his life: you were
His wife but now his bearer
From equal soul mate
You have become his carer.

Hold to your vows
And be his now.
The while you cherish
All that once he was
He will not perish.
