CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

I know, I know you're excited,
And Christmas really rocks!
What I really want is a surprise,
But all I got was socks!
 
Now…

 
You got up bright and early,
The stockings were all filled,
You took out all the goodies
- You were really thrilled.
 
You had to tell someone,
You needed to share,
So? It was early?
And why should you care?
 
You rushed to Mum's bedroom
The good news to tell.
It was five in the morning,
She said "oh" and [breath] "well".
 
You showed her your stuff,
She was so surprised
By each game and item
She didn't recognise…
 
You showed her your favourite
With excited cries,
And she cleverly joined in
Without opening her eyes!
 
She said, "please play quietly,"
So you ran to your room
To have a quick go
At your new game called 'Doom'
 
Which is fast and furious
And is noisy and loud;
When you'd killed the last monster
You felt very proud!
 
Then off down the stairs,
You're as quiet as a mouse!
You never intended
To wake the whole house!
 
You run into the lounge,
And oh, what a lark,
You turn on the tree lights
'Cos it's still quite dark.
 
You put on some music

Let's celebrate loudly,
It is Christmas day!
 
Look at the piled gifts
At the foot of the tree
Wrapped in ribbons with labels,
Now then, let's see…
 
Which ones have odd shapes
Or when squeezed will go squeak!
And which are loose wrapped
So you can try a sneak peek!
 
But… hang on a moment
At the start of this day.
Isn't there something
You really should say?
 
Yes, of course it's a thank you
For the gifts you have got,
And the food and the laughter
- You'll get a good lot.
 
But… I've also a question,
So let's take a pause…
Do you usually get presents,
When the birthday's not yours?
 
It's not mine either,
So what do you say?
Who gets the present,
On Jesus' birthday?
 
Yes, its Jesus' birthday,
It's His party day,
We sing carols to praise him,
We can shout dance and pray,
 
But there's only one gift
Which is dear and is true,
You must give Him your heart
And all that is you.
 
It's you that He wants,
And the things you believe.
It's your life as a gift
That He wants to receive!
 
So this is the thing
I've been trying to say,
Give yourself as a present
And sing "Happy Birthday."
