ANGUISH OF ANGELS

(To Derrick with appreciation for a long-suffering fellow servant)

We had the power
To take Him from the Cross!
We so desperately wanted
To save His Father's loss,
But we had to leave Him there
To pay these humans' cost.

We knew this was the Most High's will,
So could not lift a hand
For every hurt His Highness bore
Accorded to God's plan,
We had to watch Death take our King
Because He was mere man,
Yet also full Divinity!
What paradox, such pain so stark
Restrained in frail humanity,
The Lord of Light falls to the Dark
And cries out in His agony!

The legions of the Enemy
Carrolled out their victory
In triumph of insurrection,
Exulting in their blood lust.
We hoped for resurrection
And held on to our love and trust
And Shiloh's clear direction.

You mortals, so slow and dense,
Yet made to mount so high,
Why do you sit upon the fence
And why do you deny
The One whose name you use as curse,
Why do you choose to die?

The Three-in one can make you whole,
Why do you choose to die?
There's None else left to try
And nothing worth to buy
So…
Why…do…you…choose to die?
