SUFFERING SERVANT

I went to Him upon His Cross.
His gaze drew me
Down to His feet
And there I knelt,
And in my hands some
Nails and hammer felt.

And red upon my arms
I saw,
Crimson my elbows,
Stained in gore,
And how my soul longed
For a fresh scene,
My filthy heart,
Stony, unclean,
For change I sought,
A better part.

I would not look upon His face,
When knowing I had put Him there.
A timeless moment held me still,
His love called out
To my self-will.

But then those tears of blood,
Turned out
To be my cleansing flood
And bathed my hurt
And healed my woe,
Old flesh was changed
By that clear flow.

He is my God
My Master, King,
My Lord, My lover
Everything.

I will to stay upon my cross,
To die to self
And obtain loss
I, knowing I'm lonely
Yet never alone
While I remain here
He remains on the throne.
