Childrens Story
YUCK-MUCK AND THE PRINCESS (Extract)
The Princess sat at her dressing-table admiring herself in the mirror.
She was combing her long blonde hair which reached down to her waist and examining her eyebrows to make sure that they were perfect.
They were.
She was looking forward to the Ball that night, when she hoped that lots of handsome princes would ask her to dance and tell her how pretty she was.
Perhaps one of them would even give her a present of a ring or ear-ring, anything as long as it was pretty and for her to wear.
Her name was Luroo Luroo Luroo the Fourth, and she was the only daughter of the King and Queen of an island called Olivey.
Ever since her birth people had been saying," Oh! What a pretty baby" and " Isn't she beautiful" and even, " She doesn't look anything like her mother or father, does she !", which wasn't very polite to her parents but happened to be true.
She was very pretty.
Her father the King had a big black beard, and a big brown laugh, and brown skin.
He ruled most of the land and thought he ruled it all, and spent most of his time being happy and jolly.
Her mother spent most of her time being not amused . She ruled the King. She had yellow skin.
Yuck-Muck lived in the Forest of Wintle nearby.
She was a horrible forest creature. Nobody knew exactly what she was.
She didn't know herself !
She looked quite ugly. Actually it was difficult to see what she looked like, because her hair was very long, and she was covered with earth and dirt.
